This was for a biology class. The content and character of this video were done with little resources, so expect the obvious: this was made by a high school student.

Thanks that just about sums it all up. Happy New Year FatherChrismas. :o )

  3. FatherChrismas says:

    Parthenogenesis …
Parthenogenesis involves the production of a diploid egg that is ready and able to produce an embryo without sperm. It is true virgin-birth.

One of the two contributing oocytes was from pups whose imprinting centers had been genetically manipulated, and in the resulting progeny the new genotype produced an aparent delay in all causes of mortality–and thus produced an extended lifespan.

Don’t you think they’ed need TWO wings?

    I was under the …
I was under the impression that two eggs from separate females or the same female both constitute parthenogenesis. How does the former arrangement circumvent the problem of genetic imprinting in the case of mammals?

Have you got a link to the study you’re alluding to? I’d be interesting in reviewing it.

It’s the same reason boxers aren’t allowed to use brass knuckles.

  10. FatherChrismas says:

    This is not …
This is not parthenogenesis in any sense. The eggs came from different mothers. The developmental abnormality in question here is increased health and prolonged life. This is the product of the experiment, and the anomoly that must now be explained. What part of normal reproduction causes reduced life-expectancy in the progeny? What is the factor in sperm that makes even the daughters die earlier?

  11. gunman806 says:

    Artificial …
Artificial parthenogenesis of mammals often results in developmental abnormalities due to genetic imprinting. This significantly limits its utility, especially in the case of humans.

Who the f. do you …
Who the f. do you think you are? nothing is 100% known. Everybody can change and heal without science has an answer to it. Before you say things as “humanity is mature enough to deal with the consequences of such science” FIND A CURE 4 CANCER, AIDS ect. We are already with to many people on earth, witch is polluted. Clone the earth for godsake. U wanna change? Begin with yourself. Find solution for the problems that are urgent to be solved NOW. pretension, prediction brings nothing.

    A mouse was …
A mouse was recently conceived in the laboratory using two eggs and no sperm. This was important enough—but what was more important was that the mouse lived significantly longer than normal (something like a third longer). I has been suggested that something in the sperm causes a decreased life expectancy for the offspring. This technique of reproduction (using two eggs) might be applicable to human beings, and the result might be similar to that in the mouse.

“it is to up to us, to decide how far is too far” – that sums it up pretty well!

  16. FatherChrismas says:

    There are …
There are inheritable changes in gene expression, not caused by changes in the genome of the organism, but by the activation or repression of different genes. The conditions that a person suffered during the development of their sex cells produces inheritable, non-genomic alterations in the way the DNA in their descendants is expressed. It was first observed that starvation in the childhood of a grandmother, was manifest as low birth-weight in her granddaughters and great granddaughters.

Ha, ha, ha, I am an …
Ha, ha, ha, I am an interacial offspring; but, I do not consider myself in any way good looking. What about focusing on who we are rather how we look. When we die it will not make any difference, we all decompose.

  18. Ellavella says:

    If this kind of …
If this kind of interference is acceptable how can they judge athletes for taking performance enhancing drugs?
What is the difference? Isn’t it all a form of tampering what is already there?

    You’re lack of …
You’re lack of confidence in your fellow humanity is disturbing.

Yes we can be cruel and heartless, this only reflect the fact that the world we live in is cruel and heartless world. The universe does not mourn our deaths or feel empathy with the sick or weak. So we have to take responsibility for that ourselves.

And the last part of your argument that implies that genetic engineering will lead to genocide makes no sence at all. This is not history repeating itself. This is progress.

  22. helix4811 says:

    there are …
there are somethings that are better left to chance, and not humans.humanity can be cruel and heartless, what will happen to a child that is not born smart or handsome because the genetics were not ‘fixed’ as a lot of people ‘would’ put it. would we throw it away like adolf, saying a child thats not perfect is not a child at all?See history repeat itself, ie, WW2?that is what most likely will happen and what is meant to be the balance in nature, WILL shift, and we will suffer in the end, garanted

  25. DeSpiritualAtheist says:

    Your future is …
Your future is never predetermined simply by your genes. And no matter if it is humans or pure chance that decides your genes, you do not have a choice.

The question is, shall we let heartless chance keep deciding our fate or shall we as humans make the choices. I have enough faith in humanity to say that I think the answer should be obvious.
